My initial thoughts were the same as John Camp's, and still are. 
Bellfounders were not always the most literate of people, witness LOVE 
DOG on Chideock tenor & AVE MARIA GAGMA ROU on Sandford Orcas tenor. It 
is not only bellfounders who make errors,however, although their 
mistakes often last longer than most. I've just purchased a history of 
the Village of Bradford Abbas, also in Dorset, where a layman 
attributed bells to W & C Powell of Cullompton, and Mears & Stainbrook.
