I have followed this topic with interest as I was unaware that
bells could be engraved with a hammer and chisel, and enquire
whether:-
1. Is it possible to crack a bell by this form of engraving?

2. Is it possible for copious engraving to affect the tone?

3. What is the earliest known example of an engraved bell, and
are there any engraved pre-reformation bells?
