No testimonial to the Southwark work: Westminster Abbey and Bow were loud i=
n their praises, the latter (1907) stating "The famous 'Bow Bells,' origin=
ally cast at the Whitechapel Foundry, has been for some years in bad ringin=
g order, which was made worse by their being touched by unskilful hands....=
." An early swipe at G&J whose first efforts with them seem to have been no=
ne too successful. Note that when Mears rehung them on this occasion, they =
fitted a very differenty sort of cast-iron stock to the tenor, to retain th=
e canons using traditional supporting ironwork.

There's a picture of the bell with the stock on Dickon's site at http://lon=
don.lovesguide.com/mary_le_bow_first.htm
