The Tower Captain at Devizes St John has sent me the following.

At about 1pm on Tuesday September 26th. a fire was started
deliberately in the vestry at the back of the church causing hundreds of
thousands of pounds worth of damage. The whole of the church and tower has
suffered extensively from smoke damage and because of the toxic content of
the soot the cleaning needs to be carried out professionally. Therefore, the

church and bells will not be ready for use until the New Year. Meanwhile,
all services will be held at St Mary's Church and also the bellringers
practice night on Thursday evenings.
