Never comfortable when you have that tight a schedule!

I always remember when we rehung Tenterden bells in 1971, we were just
hoisting the first girders for the new frame up the tower when the
Vicar sauntered in and announced, "I hope you're not going to take too
long with this job, I've managed to persuade the Archbishop of
Canterbury to come and dedicate the bells a week next Saturday!" For
once in his life, Harry Parkes was speechless!

We made it, just, with a tryout on the Friday night and the dedication
the following day at 3 pm, but the price we had to pay was ten days of
a grumpy Harry Parkes ...he was not a happy bunny to be put under so
much pressure and he made sure we knew it!

Arthur Lewry, Harry's inimitable side-kick, made one of his classic
comments during this period: "There's no need to get in such a pester
Harry!" He was always good at the understated remark!
