I was always under the impression that bells were never recast from specific
bells. I thought that scrapped bells were just melted down and the metal
used as and when required.

The "RECAST" euphemism seems to be used even when
bells are replaced. At Wokingham All Saints the
inscription on the new sixth implies that it has beeen
recast - including the date and founder of the old
bell. It hasn't! It is sitting at Loghborough on its
way to Kirkby Overblow.
