And - dare one say it - until 1926 near Fenchurch Street Station, and nowhere near St Stephen Coleman, there was also a St Katherine Coleman! Or Katharine or Catherine &c &c.

The successor church in Hammersith (where at least one of the two bells from the former City church still resides) was originally St Katherine Coleman; in the latest London Diocese Book its has dropped the medieval suffix, and has a central 'e'. The said Directory confirms the six-bell tower in Leadenhall Street as St Katharine Cree. With a central 'a'.

So there :)

Philip Denton: "which City Church dedication should we dissect next?

How about St Stephen Coleman Street? Can't believe there was or ever could be a Saint Stephen Coleman, unless patron saint of ringing anoraks and club teas
