On my recent visit, we began by ringing the back 6, which I thought sounded rather good. Then we rang on the 8, and I felt that the trebles sounded a bit strange, not quite a match for the rest. Then I found out that they were Eijsbouts replacements...

I rang Fen shortly after they went in.
Things can change appreciably as clappers bed in.
To recount a tail, I remembered Haywood as being possibly the nicest, beautifully mellow 8 I had heard. We were almost the first to ring on new clappers, 1973. I went back a few years ago and found them really disappointing, distinctly over bright and harsh.
Is that what has happened at Fen? I really must go back.

They should have been a lot better than 'OK' which is a shame. But
they are a lot better than many of the rings of 8 nearby - Histon,
Huntingdon, Littleport, etc, etc.
