The diocese applied for listed building consent to remove the bells on
safety grounds, esp following the publicity on 28dayslater. There was
no suggestion of disposal or dispersal, simply safety. The Keltek
trust came forward with a very helpful offer to cover the work.
Consent was granted with the condition that the tower be made safe and
roofed. If the funding were available to do the work on the tower we
would not be seeking to remove the bells. The result is that we cannot
remove the bells until this condition is lifted. Negotiations continue!
