[Bell Historians] Bell theft

This is becoming a regular occurrence of late - I think is is something like the 3rd or 4th bell theft in the last couple of months.
Does anybody have any idea why this activity has escalated recently, or is it just pure coincidence?

How can a church go for almost a month without noticing that one of their bells had been 
stolen when they are easily visible. Must be a very remote church!
