Surley a major factor must be the acoustics of the towers having new rings
installed. It's become relatively rare for bellfounders to get the opportinity
for a complete new ring, and even when that does happen how often do towers
with the acoustics of, say, Chewton Mendip come up? Virtually never, I would
say.

Agreed!

Look how many new "complete" peals were cast between 1970 and 2008 (about
100 by Taylors), in comparison to 1900 to 1939 (about 340 by Taylors). There
was about 3 times more chance of finding a good tower back then!

Is the drastic reduction down to Heritage Issues, the decline of the CofE or
is there just less money about???
