David Cawley's words eloquently sum up Chris Dalton: he really was
one in a million.

My first encounter with him was back in the early 60s when he came to
ring at Tenterden on an outing that contained just about all the
characters mentioned by Michael Uphill in his `Tales from the London
County Crypt'. On that occasion CD dared to make a derogatory
comment about the tone of my beloved Tenterden bells. Despite his
seemingly acidic comment (which was actually a very accurate
summation of the melancholy tone of the two Warner tenors), we became
instant friends and I treasure many happy hours spent in his company
over the last forty years or so.

Both the photographic and the bell world have been greatly enriched
by his amazing contribution, for which we should all be immensely
grateful.

He fought a very brave battle. May he rest in peace.

Richard
