It was always said that the (undated) Frances Watts bell at Bingham Notts
was an Armada bell (vide CBNotts vol 1, p.22).

Subject: [Bell Historians] Armada bells

The seventh bell (14-2-0) at Chertsey is know as the "Armada bell" since
it was cast in 1588 (by Robert Mot).

Does anyone know if there a surge in bell casting in this year to
celebrate the defeat of the Spanish or is it simply a coincidence that
this bell happened to be cast in 1588?

Are the many 1588 bells still out there for that matter?

Many thanks
Peter Whisker
