Discussion of steel bells made me think of two other points.
Has there ever been a case of EH opposing replacxement of steele bells with bronze on the grounds that steel bells are a hostorical rarity?
Also, what other materials have been used for the casting of church bells? Brass bells are of course common but have any been cast of a size suitable for use in a church? I guess there are small ones in use in various places, perhaps transfers from elsewhere. What would be the largest known brass bell?
