"Why are Gresford described in Dove as an eight, with 4 trebles to 
provide a light eight? Are they not ringable as a ten?"

 

Isn't it something like the ropes of the front four (i.e. 1, 2#, 3, 4 of 12) falling among the back bell ropes?
