I have had correspondence with the secretary of SPAB, Matthew Slocombe, who
takes much the same view.

I hope someone is going to reply to this incredibly crass piece of
correspondence. I know that one of the ringers in Hobart has already sent
an e-mail letter to the Telegraph.

A pretty ill informed piece. The comparison with a vintage car is a poor
choice, most people who own such vehicles tend to not keep them for
everyday use. Few churches have the luxury of a "spare" ring of bells!
It would be interesting to see the list of the "many experienced ringers"
on their books.
