Alan
Another maker of ropes is Matthew Higby (matthewhigby at pTVnP3AO-4GIBxUBUDD1u73QNF-VZumhE3X9pUBgEpjyXxMA4hrj5Ur2LsQRlJtvs7fHhEzWnNHdHA.yahoo.invalid) (tel: +441761 233757) send him a message and he may have some suggestions as to what to do. If they are all natural as Peter normally supplies the yarn he used can vary in quality, I to have experience of one of his ropes that even after hanging weights for months was as stretchy as hell and unusable, on the other hand we have had a set of eight ropes that lasted over 15 years and were brilliant and often deputise if we have to repair another even today.
Hope that helps

Subject: [Bell Historians] Ropes - Help Please
Hello Everyone,
We are at the end of our rope(s). :-)
Our current ropes are only two years old and we have yet to be able toeliminate the elasticity. Our tower captain hates them and ourvisitors dislike them and have trouble with them. Our ringing friendsin Seattle no longer like to visit even.
We have hung weights on the end for weeks but the elasticity comes backas soon as the weather warms up. They were regular ropes with asilicone coating above the sally.
This was the fourth complete set we have had over the years from PeterMinchin. All the other sets were completely satisfactory and lasted 8to 10 years, depending upon the amount of ringing and the care taken bythe steeplekeeper.
Of course this was all my fault because I did not order this latest setof ropes with terylene tops! :-(
We would appreciate any and all suggestions, from replacing them with anew set having terylene tops, to splicing in terylene tops to theexisting sallies, to changing suppliers. Come to that, are there anysuppliers left these days, or have they all retired?
Your suggestions will be gratefully appreciated,
Alan Ellis
