[Bell Historians] medieval bell pit

[Hazel Basford]

I seem to recall that evidence of a pit used for bell casting was found
below the church floor at Pluckley, Kent.  Others on the list may know more
about this.

What could be the reason for the charcol and bellmetal in the pit?
