For years, I've been trying to find out more info about the reputed 3/4 at Westhead (Nr Ormskirk). No info is on the NBR.
For over 20 odd years, I've been unsuccesfull in getting information from the Parish about what they have in the tower. There have been rumours in that past that they were maybe a 4.
A Churchwarden said 3 and one cracked, but I didn't understand if he mean three bells and one of the three is cracked or three sound bells plus a fourth cracked one. When I was going to look at the contents of the tower, the key for the door had gone missing!
There seems to be a lot of confusion in the Parish as to what they have in the tower-more recently, a Warden said they have a peal of bells but there was no access up the tower at that point in time.
From The National Archives: In 1947, there was "corrospondance re repair of the bells" and in 1965 a faculty was applied for to "install recorded bells".
Does anyone know any more please? I think bells may have been ordered late 1840s/early 1850s.
I'd love to know what is in the tower and I'm sure GAD could make good use of info too for the NBR.
Alan
