In the old ringing chamber at Painswick (above the present gallery and mostly full of clock) There are the remnants of toe straps for the back three bells. Another interesting feature is that there were no boxes but the back end ringers shared a raised bit of floor. This room has a quite low ceiling and the sallies would have reached the level of the pre 1899 wooden frame. The outlines of the stone peal tablets now moved down to the gallery are all around the walls.
