[Bell Historians] Fwd: "Tuning cut" in Bell [2 Attachments]

I received this request.  My guess is  that it might be an (unsuccessful)
attempt to stop a crack from spreading, but I wasn't sure.  I'm sure
someone on this list can advise.

I have seen this done before - probably in an attempt to restore some of the tone (by stopping the two sides of the crack vibrating against each other). It doesn't work!


Another example is the treble at Luckington near Malmesbury.
