[Bell Historians] RE: Thorney, Notts

The interesting thing about them is that they have ‘handbell’ profiles, in other words there is no soundbow per se.

 

I suspect the specification for them was issued by the Architect, L N Cottingham, to go with the style of the church he was building. The previous church had 2 bells, no details of which survive.

Spotted that Taylors are working on the two "bell" chime at Thorney

Why would they order bells that shape? I notice that the stonework has had to be shaped to let them swing.
