I am compiling a record of peals rung at Sonning (where I learnt to ring) and have noticed a rather sad footnote.

Oxford Diocesan Guild
Sonning on Thames, Berkshire
St Andrew
Monday, 3 August 1914 in 3.15 (20)
5056 Plain Bob Major
Composed by Frank Bennett
1 William T Horne
2 Harry Bungay
3 Charles Giles (C)
4 Walter A Webb
5 William H Fussell
6 John A Rance
7 Richard Buckland
8 Ernest C Lambert
The band thank the Vicar for allowing this attempt at short notice. An effort was made to stop the ringing during the last 2 courses upon a false rumour that war had been declared by Great Britain
