Verdin do not have a vertical borer for turning metal off so rigged up the grinder system.

Historically Meneeley also used  grinders to tune their bells in the 20th century.

I found this document and passed the link to AAJB who suggested that I pass it on to this group.
He particularly made comment on the use of grinders to tune West Point college bells before they were rehung.
