Indeed.  When I wrote the Wokingham book I wanted to put local performance
into the wider context.  In the early C20 around a dozen quarters a week
were published.  By 1950 that had doubled and by 1970 it was over 100,
compared with well over 300 in recent years.

My reference to C17 quarters wasn't to imply they rang any but to counter
the idea that a date touch back then would have been a trivial
performance.
