There are certainly reports of the front 4 being rung and the tenor chimed in the booklet that was printed at the time that the current bells were installed.

Subject: [Bell Historians] Frame plans

Whilst going through the courtald website I came across these two frame plans for castor and Peterborough cathedral, although the Peterborough drawing dates from 1923 the castor drawings are undated although I suspect they probably predate the 1900 rehang by Taylor's seeing that the frame is diagonal and looks of some age. The Peterborough drawing is of particular interest as it shows the original five hung in their original frame and I have often wondered weather the bells where ever rung in this condition?.
