Hi All
Quick note just to update you on forthcoming ringing events taking place at Cherry Hinton in the next few months - and some for your thoughts / opinions
Open tower afternoon - Sat 15 Sept 3pm - 5pm
Cherry Hinton tower will be open and a demonstration of ringing will be provided to anyone interested in the community as part of the Cherry Hinton festival.
The churchyard will have pop-up food and drink stands, and the church will be used as a community cinema in the evening
If you want to be involved in the ringing part - let Chris Shore know - chris.shore at ntlworld.com
- or pop along and give us some support and enjoy the delights of Cherry Hinton Festival.
Sunday 11 November - Remembrance ringing
I've had a quick discussion with Karin and Heather this morning about Remembrance Sunday plans in Cherry Hinton this year given the 100 year commemoration of the First World War.
There will be the usual Royal British Legion Service complete with piper - taking place at 3pm on Remembrance Sunday. Karin has suggested ringing beforehand from 2.20pm.
The national steer is that as many rings of bells as possible should be rung at 7.05pm as a call of peace. The church are keen to support this ringing and want to publicise to the local community that they should listen out for this in the evening.
If we are to be part of this I would suggest meeting 6.45pm and finish at 7.15pm - unless anyone has any other thoughts, realising that people have other towers to resource and some people will have already been to Cherry Hinton twice already during the day - there is the usual 10am service to resource as well.
Checking the district website - the thought is to ring 100 blows on as many bells as possible in the district during the weekend - which we will manage.
The steer is that bells should be muffled in the morning, and after 12noon rung open (which will save the use and life of our muffles if so)
Realise that this is 2 months away yet - but good to gather thoughts on who is willing and interested to ring for the afternoon service 2.20pm, and if anyone is willing to agree to the 7.05pm so I can let the church know whether this will definitely happen or not?
Equally if anyone has any thoughts about something might work at C Hinton for any of these timings - Qps etc - then do say.
Heating update
It is likely that the radiator in the tower won't be replaced for the forthcoming winter, in order to continue with drying out operations.
I am assured that the church heating will be on for practice night in the wider church and the pipes will be hot running around the edge of the tower.
Whether this will be sufficient who knows - time will tell. Lets hope we don't have another beast from the east winter !
A new radiator should fitted in spring next year and we will be consulted on design and positioning.
That's all for now folks.
See you Tuesday
