Hi All
Quick update on returning to ringing at Cherry Hinton – Greg and I trialled the process this afternoon at 3.30pm and rang 2 bells (treble and 4) for 15 mins for the 4pm service.
It all seemed to work well, we wore masks throughout, there was hand sanitizer available and no congregation entered the church at all.
We don’t yet know Cherry Hinton church service plans beyond the end of August, but no doubt we will know shortly. We are only looking at arranging ringing until the end of August under the current regime based on going week by week. Ringing will be on 2 or 3 bells. Either Greg and I will always be around to deal with the unlocking.
If its raining, the outdoor service will be cancelled – so there is an element of unpredictability about the plans we make.
We’d be keen to know who would be happy to be added to the contact list for this current stage of Sunday service ringing in forthcoming weeks ?
Thanks and hope to see some of you soon.
Amanda

Subject: Plans for returning to ringing at Cherry Hinton
Hi All
Just a note to provide an update on the return to ringing plans specifically at Cherry Hinton.
During July and August, Cherry Hinton church are holding a weekly Sunday afternoon service starting at 4pm and to be held in the churchyard. I’ve been asked to start thinking about providing ringing for the service.
As you’ll no doubt be aware, some guidelines have been issued on the return to ringing by the Central Council, these were awaiting the final stamp and seal from Public Health England and are now with the Deputy Chief Medical Officer. Although we are still waiting for the final sign-off, there seems to be a general opinion that we can plan to start a return to ringing.
More information on the guidance around ringing can be found as below:
https://cccbr.org.uk/coronavirus/
Cherry Hinton bells were inspected for safety a few weeks ago (thanks to Greg and Robert) and will be given a final once over before ringing starts again. Appropriate distances were also measured between bells according to the guidelines provided to ascertain how many bells can be rung.
At Cherry Hinton, we can comfortably consider ringing 2 bells for max 15 minutes (including ringing up and down, rung by people from different households) or 3 bells (including 2 or more members of same household).
Hand sanitizer and face masks will be available in the church, and only those ringing should attend and expect to ring the same bell for the 15 minutes.
Most importantly, people should only offer to ring if they are comfortable with the current arrangements – there is no problem at all if not. And I appreciate that the service time is entirely different to our usual ringing slot. Greg will coordinate on a week by week basis via email.
The plan is to start to coordinate some service ringing to meet at 3.30pm on Sunday 2 August, giving time for me to run the final plans past the church, and hopefully for the final guidelines to be approved….we’ll then continue with that plan throughout August if it works, and see where that takes us to.
Unfortunately, guidance for a return to practice nights has not yet been provided.
Thanks all for your patience, I realise that this is not ringing as we once knew it, but it is a return to ringing for Sunday services.
Look forward to seeing some of you hopefully in person in the not too distant future.
Keep safe and well.
Amanda
