Here are my thoughts on the Carlisle page in previous diaries.
Andrew Johnson
The Ringing World Diary has a page of compositions of Carlisle Surprise
Minor. While a 720 of Carlisle is impossible with no 65's at
backstroke, a better choice of compositions would minimise the number.
The 72, 144 (length incorrectly printed as 288) and the 216 have no 65's
at backstroke. The 240 has 2, but the alternative touches of (PB)*5,
(BP)*5, (PPBBP)*2 or (BBPPP)*2 have none.
The first 720 has 6 65's at backstroke, and as this is the minimum for a
multi-part extent this could remain. The other 720's have 9,12,13 and
13 65's at backstroke. They would be better replaced with some other
extents with only 4 or 6 65's at backstroke.
The extents with 4 65's at backstroke happen to be those generated by
the first one-part extent in the diary starting at a place with 34
behind.
The extents with 6 65's at backstroke happen to be those generated by
the third one-part extent in the diary starting at a place with 23
behind, going backwards.
A 1440 with no 65's at backstroke is also possible. This can be
composed of two true 720's which in themselves do not come round. It
can be rearranged as a 1320 or 600.
An example of how the diary page might be changed is given below:
