I was using the convention that A.B means 'A operating on B' or,
equivalently, 'B transposed by A' - which was the fashion abt. 30 years ago.
This reminds me that one of the difficulties one may have with Hodgson is
that he uses the other way round, which was replaced towards the end of the
60's by the method I use.

This is the natural way generated by, what might be termed, 'function
notation'.
