I see that an atw peal of 100-spliced surprise major was rung last week 
(http://www.campanophile.co.uk/show.html?Code=31837).

I've had a look at the methods, and think I've managed to come up with the

The composer is Paul Needham, and putting something like this together is a 
fantastic effort. The composition contains all the methods from Norman 
Smith's 23-spliced: indeed, with the same leads here as in Smith's the 
composition could be said to be "Smith's expanded". The extra methods are 
inserted as courses into this Smith's framework, often using blocks of three 
incoprating a pair of consecutive mx methods (which are invariably bobbed). 
Other 8ths-place methods are invariably plain.

All the different methods from Chandler's 23 (except Caterham and 
Colnbrooke) are also included. 29 methods are right-place and the methods 
are generally a very different mix: there is no 'trick' involving multiple 
trivial variations.

I'm not sure how many extra methods is possible to squeeze into this plan - 
perhaps Paul would like to comment? Of course, the 'holy grail' of composing 
is to come up with an extent of 180 spliced treble-dodging major without 
relying on half-lead spliced tricks and where the methods aren't all Derwent 
variations.

The distribution of leadhead groups in Paul's 100-spliced compositon is:

Interestingly, I would guess that the proportions of the different groups 
approximates quite well to the proportions of all rung surprise major 
methods.

With 22400 changes in a peal - over half the extent - the individual rows 
contained becomes less of an issue than with a 'standard' length. A brief
