Why would you ever call "simple" cinques and max variable cover? Only the cinques bits require a cover so it is only variable cover if the cover changes during the cinques. Maximus does not require a cover and so cannot be variable cover.  If the cover over the cinques part does not change then it is not variable and the appropriate description would be cinques and max. An accurate description if the cover does change would be variable cover cinques with maximus.
