Could it be that the 1970s search Mr Sullivan refers to was tenors-fixed? There are 247,296 such compositions (up to rotation) which seems a more reasonable number to print out (although still a lot of pages). Just 20 milliseconds of 2010-era computer time to generate all those - I'd guess that would be a few minutes in the 70s. MBD
