No, I hadn't seen that composition, Philip (or at least not noted its structure). Very nice.
Simon

Robin:
"Following the line of thought initiated by Simon Gay, I came up with this:
1344 Spliced Major (7m)
12345678 A York S
13527486 L Cornwall S
14263857 C Horncastle S
15738264 J Tavistock S
16482735 E Chesterfield S
17856342 G Primrose S
18674523 M- Bristol S
17864523
6-part. In each lead, the 'part-bell' (8ths pl. bell at the part-end) rings pivot bells throughout the part"
Thanks Simon and Robin. You may not be aware that both your examples are very similar to a peal of 23 spliced major I composed which we rang at Spitalfields in January 2009 (http://bb.ringingworld.co.uk/view.php?id=93447).
Here, all 23 leads in one part are the pivot-bell. The composition uses the same attractive lead structure that Robin and Simon discuss, and all 12 leadend groups are present (a fairly rare feature in rung 23-spliced compositions). The music is really rather nice as well, and the methods fairly familiar and approachable. It deserves more outings :-)
I put the composition together after a discussion with Paul Seaman about the desirable nature of such a concept.
