There was a few days ago some discussion on the change-ringers list of
Little Grandsire Triples and friends. That discussion has set me thinking
(often a bad idea).
I think I understand how Bastow Major extends to Caters according to the CC
rules on such things.
The following, a sort of flipped Bastow, is a perfectly fine plain, little,
major method:
x7,1
However, by my reading of the rules on extension, there's no way to turn it
into a double hunt caters method, and if one rang the obvious extension to
caters (1,9.7.9; or the rotation that has 7 and 9 as the hunt bells a la
New Grandsire) it would have to be given a distinct name.
This seems wrong.
Am I confused?

"Showing that a particular type of human behavior is ubiquitous or
nearly ubiquitous in widely separated human cultures goes no way
at all towards showing that there is a genetic predisposition for
that particular behavior. So far as I know, in every culture known
to anthropologists, the hunters throw their spears pointy-end-first."
