[r-t] Plain Bob Triples

My understanding of this seemingly odd convention is that W= n-1 place bell and M = n-2 place bell. Following this rule, W = 6ths pb and M = 5ths pb. I agree that having the calling positions refer to the transpositions of the coursing order makes much more sense.

Why, in the diary, does it mark the first lead of Plain Bob Triples
as 'M', and the penultimate lead as 'W', whereas the other way round
clearly makes much more sense?
