[djb122] Depends on the profile of bells within the cathedral, I suppose. I
can't help thinking that this may be unusual, though - the cathedrals with
booklets usually seem to be the ones with one or more ringers interested in
bell history.

I would say that the bells in Canterbury have been pretty high profile -
especially shortly after the restoration of 1981. There have also been a
large number of ringers interested in the history: David Cawley, Anne
Oakley, Richard Offen, Nick Davies (and myself) ... all are prolific writers
on bell history. In the case of Canterbury, it was probably bl**dy
mindedness of the bookshop. Ofcourse, things may be different now. There is
a new Bookshop Manager, and the Press Officer of the Cathedral is also the
Tower Captain!
