As part of my extensive research into ringing boxes for the above web site,
I came across a complete set, dated 1769, at Little Bryant on the Marsh.
They are inscribed as follows:
1. I MEAN TO MAKE IT UNDERSTOOD THAT FOR THE LITTLE I AM GOOD.
2. TO HONOUR BOTH OF HEIGHT AND SIZE OUR RINGERS WE SHALL CAUSE TO RISE
3. WHILST THUS WE JOIN IN CHEERFUL SOUND MAY YE BE LIFTED FROM THE GROUND
4. BOXES ARE A DISTRACTION TO THE MIND
5. IN TIMBER BANDS ALL YE WHO JOIN WITH PLANKS AND SCREWS UNITE
SO SHALL OUR TONGUE AND GROOVE COMBINE TO RAISE THE RINGERS RITE
6. YE RINGERS ALL THAT YEARN FOR HEIGHT & LOFTINESS
BE ON THE BOX & YOU'LL THE SAME POSSESS
7. TREAT THE BOX WELL AND YOU WILL BE SURE TO SCORE
AND I'LL TAKE YOU RIGHT OFF THE FLOOR
8. MOUNT ME FOR THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND
