"so the two steel trebles of the eight were scrapped and replaced with
bronze bells"

Not quite. In fact there were 3 steel bells considered for the trebles. None
have been scrapped.

1. From St Peter, Brockley, Kent - removed from Brockley in 1981 - now in
store ( Liverpool )
2. From St ? Waterfoot, Durham - now hung at Greyfriars Kirk, Edinburgh
3. From St ? Newbury, Berks - now in store ( Liverpool ).
