Subject: [Bell Historians] The last complete G&J ring
Hello everyone,
As I am new to the list, I hope this topic has not
been raised before.
Can anyone confirm that Goxhill, Lincs, were the last
ever complete ring cast by G&J? John Ketteringham's
excellent Lincolnshire Bells and Bellfounders Book
states that they were the "last major" work to be
undertaken by the firm, cast at by Taylors on their
behalf in 1955.
However, the narrative on "Ring Forth Holy Bells"
states that Addington, Surrey were "the last complete
ring installed by Gillett and Johnston in 1956."
Listening to the recording, they do not sound like a
complete Gillett ring.
Michael.
PS I have rung at St Mary Abbots Kensington and
remember then being nothing more than a clunky old
Warner 10. Pontefract St Giles get my vote for best
10, although I have not rung at Abergavenny or Inverary.
