Tower graffiti

The pastor of an old church which plans renovation of its tower and 
building has raised an unusual question, which I pass on in the hope 
that someone can provide an answer:
Do you know of anyone who has researched the sociology of church 
tower graffiti?

They have more graffiti behind the organ as well. (I have no idea of 
the content of any of it.)
