I suspect that this may be the key! 

At Allesley our 6th is about 6cwt and goes well. Why then do some of 
our ringers have problems ringing it up or turning it in when they 
can go to other towers where ringing the, say, 4th means that they 
are ringing a much heavier bell than our 6th and they have no 
problems doing so?
