Sorry, I gave wrong information in my last message. The 'two cast Iron str=
etchers' were fitted, by Groves, to the frame at Bromham, and not to the h=
ead-stocks and wheels, as I wrote.
The wooden frame, for six bells, as built in 1875, had no exterior top fram=
e to pits five and six as there was not enough room. Cast iron stretchers =
being so much thinner, were fitted in 1925 to tighten up the frame.
As I wrote, metal rods were fitted to strengthen the wheels, but I suppose =
these are called tie-bars.
