Funnily enough, I've recently come across a newspaper cutting with a picture
of the bells at St Mary, Bishophill Senior, York, immediately prior to
removal in 1954. The bells were rehung by Mallaby in 1907, and the bell in
the picture clearly has ball bearings. Are they original? I don't know, but
I haven't come across any reference to any work being done to the bells
between their rehanging and their removal. Not that this means that there
wasn't any, or course.
