One of the best known examples no longer exists, viz the 4/5 from Lea, Wilt=
s - CD's photograph of the PoW's Feathers on this bell is well known. The b=
ell itself was scrapped around 1976.

A futher lost example but where the Royal Arms still exist is Box, Wilts, S=
t Thomas a Becket. JT&Co recast this 1610 Roger Purdue I bell in 1936; a co=
ndition of the Faculty was that the 5" high Royal Arms of James I should be=
cut out and preserved in the church, which they are. And Taylor's did a su=
perb job in reproducing the arms on the new bell (18-0-20 in E, CO).

Th most common example is Warner's, to accompany their declaration of Paten=
t. At least one bellfounder refuses to reproduce it on the grounds that th=
e firm no longer has the Warrant (which Warner's did, and which entitled th=
em to use the Arms) or the Patent. Vickers mistakenly used them with their =
Patent, although they did have a Royal Warrant - but that was for something=
more lethal than even steel bells!

I will post the Jefferies lis this evening.

The fourth at Enford, Wilts is the bell featured in the John Taylor & Co
collection of post cards 'Old bell with iron headstock'. It shows the sid=
e
with the Royal Arms.
