There used to be (until the late 1980s, I think) quite a large bell in a
marshalling yard on the way out of Waterloo station. From memory, it was
hung atop a very substantial-looking metal column and appeared to be hung
for swing-chiming (with an iron head-stock).

Does anyone know please a) what is was originally used for b) what
happened to it?

Are there other examples of its type around?
