"Apparently some porosity in the casting has resulted in some rapid 
clapper wear. I rang there a month or so ago and the 9th sounded 
weak and was difficult to pull up right. I gather that the quarter 
turning and reassembly has resolved both problems

If it is a poor casting, was recasting considered? Do any of the other bells
show similar signs? It is the most important church in the country after
all....
