Thanks to all for your contributions to this topic. Up to now it has 
been about t-h bells hung for change ringing, but what about those 
made for chimes? (clock, musical, or whatever)

It's long been known that the ten bells which Taylor shipped to Ames, 
Iowa in 1898 (and which later became the foundation for the fine 
carillon at what is now Iowa State University) were the first modern 
tuned bells shipped to North America. But it wasn't until 1922 that 
a modern carillon came to this continent. What else happened in 
those early years of t-h development as applied to chimes?
