I haven't seen them recently, but I'm fairly sure the G&J eight at Audley,
Staffs have RSJ headstocks. The job was new in 1946, and I have been told
that at that time ironfoundry capacity was still strictly controlled. The
frame is also RSJs welded.
My recollection of the Bowell RSJ headstocks is that they were very similar to his timber headstocks, which in the case of bells with cannons
were fitted with very deep cast iron trunnions to avoid the need to weaken
the headstock by removing timber.
