I'd be interested to learn any details of the bells at St Patrick's which
preceeded the current Taylor ring. Michael Wilby's website says:

"In 1670 there were eight bells which were recast in 1863. Strangely most of
these bells were sent as gifts to various churches around the country
(Irvinestown, Co. Fermanagh; St Bartholomew, Belfast, Co. Down; Kenmare and
Killonglin, Co. Kerry; Killaney, Co. Down and St Columbanus', Ballyholme,
Co. Down) leaving only the third and tenor in Dublin."

I could find no details in Taylor's records of old bells either scrapped or
rehung.

Found a new treasure trove in the manuscript versions of the Wiltshire
Archaeological Magazine yesterday, which contains quite a bit of material
not included in the published version. Hope the following is of interest.

In the second volume is a cutting 'A note on Church Bell Inscriptions'
labelled Willis's notes 1854, with the following:

On some of the bells at St Patrick's Cathedral Dublin are the following
inscriptions- (the a's and e's are written as dipthongs)
FIRST DVRET ILLAESA SVPRMEMAE TVBAE 1724

FIFTH HENRY PARIS MADE ME WITH GOOD SOVND
TO BE FIFT (sic) IN EIGHT WHEN ALL RING ROVND

SIXTH IOHANNESDOBSON IOHANNES PREENE AN. DOM. 1870
NON CLAMANS SED AMANSSONET IN AVRE DEI

SEVENTH FEARE GOD AND HONNER THE KING [1Pet ii 17]
FOR OBEDIENCE IS A VERTUOUS THING
ANNO DOMINI 1607 WP RP IP

The seventh bell was recast in 1809 by James Wells of Aldbowen (sic)
Wiltshire and the inscription retained. A. S.

On the same page is a pamphlet with details of the blessing of three new
bells in Dijon Cathedral. Judging by other entries in the same section I
think all the material comes from W. C. Lukis, who was very involved with
the Wiltshire Archaeological and Natural History Society in its early years.
